Information about Utah

Utah is a state in the United States of America that is situated in the western part of the country. According to the 2010 Census conducted by the United States Census Bureau, Utah is home to 2,763,885 residents, making it the 34th most populated state in the country. The state covers a land area of 84,899 square miles and is the 13th largest state in the country in terms of land area. Around 80 per cent of the total inhabitants of the state live near the Wasatch Front which centers on Salt Lake City. Hence, large parts of the state have very scarce population. To the south, Utah shares a border with the state of Arizona. To the east, Utah shares a border with Colorado while on the northeast, it is bordered by the state of Wyoming. To its north, Utah shares a border with the state of Idaho while to the west, Utah is bordered by Nevada.

The state of Utah is known for research, information technology, mining, government services and for transportation. It is also a very popular tourist site especially for those interested in outdoor sports and activities. Utah also happens to be religiously speaking, the most homogeneous state in the country. Around 60 per cent of people living in Utah belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and this has a significant impact on the daily lives and cultures of the people living in Utah.

The name of the state, ‘Utah’, is sourced from the name of a tribe called Ute which translates into ‘people of the mountains’ in the native Ute language. The capital city of the state of Utah is Salt Lake City which also happens to be the largest city in the state. The nickname of the state is “The Beehive State” while the motto of the state is “Industry”.
