Tire Pressure Air Monitoring

Each of the tire pressure air monitoring safety caps shown below work using the same principal. They constantly monitor the tires air pressure using the tire and wheel valve stem. When the tire pressure is correct the safety caps shows you with a green band. When the tire looses up to 4 lbs. the caps will show a yellow/green in the cap window. When you see yellow/green your tire needs air, when the tire looses 8 lbs or more the caps window will show red/yellow/green which means your tire is very low and needs air immediately.

We would also recommend that you have that tire checked to see if it needs repairing. All wheels and tires normally lose 1 lb. of air pressure per month. The reason these safety caps were developed is two fold; one, is to give drivers a visual clue when their tires needed air and the second is that driving on under-inflated tires is dangerous and costly! How dangerous, so dangerous that by the year 2007 all new vehicles produced here in America will all have tire pressure monitoring systems installed as standard equipment. Remember all the news about Firestone tires and suv roll-overs? Well, when the Firestone engineers reviewed all of those cases they noted that in each case the vehicles tires were under-inflated. Under-inflated tires are dangerous and costly. If you drive on wet roads with under inflated tires your vehicle has a 400% chance of hydro-planning or skiing across the roadway surface meaning you loose traction to the road surface and in plane english you loose control of your motor vehicle. Driving on under inflated tires also reduce the miles you get on a gallon of gas not to mention that driving on under inflated tires will reduce the life of the tire or simply destroy it.

When surveyed most drivers responded by saying they think they are riding on their tires but in reality your really riding on a cushion of air inside your tires. Air is the only substance that keeps the tires round and rolling that’s why it is so important to properly maintain your vehicles tire pressure.
