Information about Hawaii

Hawaii is a state in the United States of America and happens to be the northernmost group of islands in Polynesia in the central parts of the Pacific Ocean. It is located southwest of mainland United States, northeast of Australia and to the southeast of Japan. Hawaii is the only state in the United States which is completely composed of islands. The islands that constitute the state of Hawaii number over a 100 and stretch out for more than 1500 miles. The eight chief islands are Ni’ihau, O’ahu, Lana’I, Moloka’I, Kaua’I, Maui, Kaho’olawe and Hawai’i. Of these the biggest is by far Hawai’i and is often referred to as ‘The Big Island’ to avoid it being confused with the state of Hawaii in its entirety.

Hawaii’s coastline stretches for around 750 miles which gives it the fourth largest coastline among all US states. The other 3 are Alaska, Florida and California in that order. Aside from Arizona, Hawaii is the only other state in the country that does not follow daylight saving time. The capital of Hawaii is Honolulu, which is also its largest city and is located on the island of O’ahu. Hawaii is nicknamed “The Aloha State” and the state motto is “The Life of the Land is Perpetuated in Righteousness”.
